Sean Bart
Sean Bart is a native of San Francisco, and enjoys life as a singer, actor, pianist, music director, songwriter, vocal coach and composer. He started with YPTMTC at the age of 16 as an actor, and was immediately transformed by the camaraderie and opportunity to perform high-quality theatre. To Company’s great fortune, Sean has remained on YPTMTC’s staff as much as his busy life allows, cherishing the opportunity to contribute his experience and artistry to such a wonderful organization. Among other accomplishments, Sean has appeared in professional theater, played for international recording artists, been broadcast live over syndicated radio with the Ragazzi Boys Chorus. Sean’s students and colleagues have secured jobs with professional companies throughout the world, including San Francisco Opera and on Broadway. Sean is the lead singer and main creative catalyst for the rock band Porstacio.
Nicola Bosco-Alvarez
Nicola Bosco-Alvarez received her Associate credential of the Cecchetti ISTD Ballet Method in Florence, Italy. For the past decade, she has been dancing, teaching and choreographing professionally in the Bay Area (including 30 musical theater productions). Nicola was the director of The Rocky Horror Show in Half Moon Bay which received wide acclaim with sold out and extended performances as well as the director of Homeroom, a musical Revue at Mills High School in Burlingame. Nicola also worked with the San Francisco Arts Education Project teaching youth ages 9-14, making the step to work with Company a natural one. As Interim Director of YPTMTC during 2007-2008, she directed Bat Boy, A Shakespeare Revue and Pippin. Now as full time director, we look forward to an outstanding performance of Hair in January, 2009. Nicola writes that the past year with YPTMTC has been an amazing experience, and invaluable artistically. Having the opportunity to work with such talented young adults and musicians is truly is a dream come true!
Othello Jefferson
Othello Jefferson, a native of San Francisco, began singing at a very young age. As a member of the San Francisco Boy’s Chorus, he vowed to continue to make music an integral part of his life. From elementary school through high school, he participated in many musical ensembles (chorus, band, orchestra, etc.).
Othello received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Voice from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and a Single Subject Music Credential from San Francisco State University. He has been a recipient of various awards and scholarships including the Leslie Urquhart Foundation Scholarship and was the local first place winner in the Vocal Competition of the Collegiate Division of NANM (National Association of Negro Musicians). In July 1995, he was a prizewinner in the Leontyne Price National Vocal Arts Competition in Detroit, Michigan.
As music educator, musical director, singer, pianist, and composer/ arranger, Othello has had many wonderful experiences. From 1998-2008, he was the Choir Director at his alma mater, Lowell High School. He and his students worked with the likes of Michael Morgan (Oakland East Bay Symphony), The King’s Singers, and Chanticleer. In November 2004, he and members of his Chamber Choir represented the United States by participating in the International Children’s Culture and Art Festival in Shenzhen, China, winning two awards for performance. In May 2008, he was honored to receive a Gospel Music Award at the 37th Annual Academy of Gospel Music Awards in San Francisco, CA.
Othello is a musician at First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (San Francisco), music teacher at Sequoia High School (Redwood City, CA), and is proud to have been involved with the Young People’s Teen Musical Theater Company for the past 20 years, as a singer, dancer, and, since 1993, musical director. Thank you for the memories past and those to come!
