About the Company

Young People’s Teen Musical Theatre Company is a Teenage arts company sponsored by the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, and supported by Friends of the Company (FOTC). Members range in age from 13- 18 and are selected by open audition held semi-annually in May and September.

The Young People’s Teen Musical Theatre Company provides San Francisco teenagers with an incredible opportunity to learn and grow within a musical theatre setting.  The program builds self esteem while encouraging teamwork and responsibility.

The Company was conceived and originated in 1984 by its director, Diane Price with a cast of nine. Company now offers students instruction in drama, voice, acting workshop and dance during the school year, a seven week summer workshop, and stages 3 major productions a year as well as community service performances. Members of Company are not charged monetary fees during the school year and pay a nominal fee for the Summer Program.

Young People’s Teen Musical Theatre Company has always been a way for teens from many different high schools and colleges and ethnic backgrounds to make new and lasting friendships. Our purpose is not to create “stars of tomorrow” but rather to build self esteem in the participants and get teens in touch with who they are. Many alumni of the Company are continuing to study theater, dance and music in college and have been cast in professional productions.
